When to seek medical care

Call your doctor or come back to the emergency department right away if your child has any of the following:

  • worsening abdominal pain
  • diarrhea or vomiting that lasts longer than a few days
  • blood in vomit or diarrhea (this may be black or red in color)
  • dry or sticky mouth and tongue
  • sunken eyes or no tears when crying
  • weakness, dizziness or fainting
  • drowsiness or confusion
  • a new fever over 102 degrees Fahrenheit
